Sweet teabread with chopped banana and dates mixed-in. The receipt here, the earliest we could find, unusually uses granary flour. Approximate recipe cost was 70p.

Ingredients
- 8oz granary flour
- 4 tsp baking powder
- 2 oz butter or margarine
- 1 lb bananas peeled and mashed
- 2oz soft brown sugar
- 2oz stoned dates chopped
- 2 eggs beaten

Cooking Instructions
Grease a 1 1/2 loaf tin and line base with grease proof paper. Mix flour and baking powder and rub in fat. Add remaining ingredients and beat well. Turn mixture into a tin and bake at 350F / Gas 4, for about an hour.
